Don’t mention the pension deficit

It all seems to convenient that when news breaks that there is a giant hole in the public sector pension scheme you would think that it might be spoken about, however today it got trumped by a small rise in public sector job losses. Having read the article by Bob Peston, I couldn’t help but get incensed by his main quote of, “the giant hole in the scheme can only be filled by a combination of greater contributions from taxpayers and from scheme members“, now maybe I’m just being pedantic, but as a private sector worker I put in general the most into my own pension.  My company put in a standard 3% of my earnings, that is the way it should be. My question is why should the tax payer fund the majority of the public sector pension, I agree that

Aaron Porter to be ousted?

I’m not a fan of unions, I think they’ve had their time, they don’t represent the people as much as they represent themselves. In light of the coalition we have seen a rise in action from trade unions and unions alike towards government cuts.  One such group that seem to beating the hornets nest with a stick at close quarters is the National Union of Students (NUS). Students have been pretty apathetic for many years, happy enough to stumble on in a weed infused atmosphere doing their studies, spending their loans and oblivious to the goings on of the real world, until now… It seems when you take away a drug from an addict there is a reaction, this reaction has manifested in direct action by the NUS through protests in London specifically, but also on many campus’ around England.
